Can I Wash My Hair with Body Wash? Using Body Wash to Hair

Body wash is a type of cleansing product that is designed to cleanse the skin of your body. This is a good replacement of soap. A body wash is also called as liquid soap.

So, you can see that the main task of body wash is washing the skin surface.

But as it comes in the similar form to shampoo, a lot of people ask if they can use body wash to wash their hair or not. If you’re one of them, you should read this article to get the answer.

Using Body Wash to Wash Hair

Using Body Wash to Wash Hair

If you use body wash on your hair, you won’t find any major difference between before and after applying it. Let’s know the reason.

Body wash is designed to cleanse the skin surface. As our skin is thin and sensitive to a lot of things, body wash comes with mild ingredients that work gently on the skin surface.

On the other hand, hair and the dirt that typically gets stuck to the hair are stronger. So, washing the hair and removing the dirt from your scalp requires a strong cleanser. Body wash can’t to the job properly because it comes with mild ingredients.

Also, the hair should be nourished and moisturized after washing. Shampoo comes with ingredients to nourish and moisturize the hair, but body wash doesn’t come with any of those ingredients. As a result, you won’t get the job done.

So, you can’t use your body wash to wash your hair. Even if you try, you can’t clean your hair and scalp perfectly.

Now you can see that the answer to the question is a big NO. If you use your body was to wash your hair, it won’t cause any major harm in short term. But similarly, it won’t clean your hair properly. So, using body wash instead of shampoo is just a waste of body wash and your time.

You can’t do the opposite either. Don’t try to use shampoo to wash your body. It’ll damage your skin in the long term. A short term impact of using shampoo on your body is a greasy feeling even after rinsing with water properly.

Major Differences between a Shampoo and a Body Wash

You can use body wash as a shampoo and vice versa. You already know the reasons as I’ve talked about those already. But knowing the differences between a shampoo and a body wash will help you to be clearer about it.

So, let’s see the major differences between body wash and shampoo.

1. Shampoo comes with strong ingredients because the hair can get filthy with dirt and hair products. On the other hand, body wash comes with mild ingredients because the skin is sensitive and doesn’t become as filthy as hair.

Even if both of these come with similar ingredient sometimes, those come with different composition.

2. Most shampoos come with a pH between 4 and 6. On the other hand, most body washes come with a pH ranged between 5 and 6.5.

3. Body wash comes with the property of natural oil from your skin. But shampoo doesn’t come with such aim. As a result, when you use body wash instead of a shampoo, it breaks natural oil of your hair. Thus it makes your hair dry and damaged.

So, using body wash to wash hair for a long time can seriously damage hair.

These are the common differences between shampoo and body wash. These differences clearly show that these two are totally different types of products. You can’t wash your hair using body wash and vice versa.
