Beard butter and beard balm are two different beard products with many similarities. The main similarity between these two is- both of these are mainly used for shaping and styling beard.
But, thought there are a lot of similarities, there are significant differences between these two too. These differences have made these two products useful for two different reasons.
Because of the similarities, many become confused and think that beard butter and beard balm are the same products. I guess you’ve got that these two are different but confused about the exact differences.
Here in this article, I’m going to talk about the differences between beard balm and beard butter. If you want to know, keep reading.
The Differences between Beard Balm and Beard Butter
The Ingredients
Beard balm comes with a proper mixture of was, butter, essential oils, and carrier oils. It feels like a proper balm which is not so soft in the container but gets melted when taken in hand and applied.
On the other hand, you’ll find butters, essential oils, and carrier oils in beard butter. It doesn’t come in similar texture and consistency as a beard balm. Beard butter comes with a creamy texture and feeling as it doesn’t contain any wax.
Ease of Using
Using beard butter is easier comparing to beard balm as it comes with a soft and creamy texture. It easily gets into the beard and skin. On the other hand, you’ll have to spend some more time to apply beard balm properly.
Beard balm should be applied on dry beard. If you apply it on wet beard, water interrupts with the wax and doesn’t allow it to work properly. On the other hand, beard butter can be used on both wet and dry beard.
Holding Ability
As beard balm comes with wax, it ensures strong hold. As a result, you can style your beard as you want. Conditioning balms come with less hold compared to the styling balms.
On the other hand, wax is not present in beard butter. So, butters come with very weak hold. So, if your beards are not listening to your order, beard butter can’t help much.
Purpose of Use
You won’t find any big difference between beard balm and beard butter while you’ll check the purpose of use. Both of these are used to conditioning and nourishing your beard and skin.
Besides, beard balm is designed to protect the beard and skin from damage and rough end and make the beard soft. On the other hand, beard butter sometimes comes with the ability of reducing beard dandruff and eliminating beard itching.
You can use both beard balm and beard butter every day.
These are the common differences between beard balm and beard butter. You can see that both of these are used to moisture and nourish the beard. But beard balm ensures a better hold than beard butter. On the other hand, beard butter is easier to spread around the beard and skin.
As there is not any major difference in what they do, you should pick the best one for you depending on the ease of use, benefits provided, and availability. Your personal preference should work here actively.
Is It Okay to Use Beard Butter and Beard Balm Together?
There is not huge issue in using these two together. However, using both at the same time can cause an over-application of some ingredients. So, I don’t suggest doing this.
However, if you want to use both together, you can follow some tricks. For example- you can use beard balm during the daytime to protect your style and beard butter at night to protect your skin and beard.
Also, you can apply beard butter near the root of the beard and skin as it can easily penetrate inside your beard. Then apply beard balm on the top to hold your beard style.
No matter how you use, just make sure that you aren’t overusing these. Otherwise you’ll have to face some issues. These products are made to take care of your beard, but overusing prevents the benefits.
Final Verdict
Though there is not a major difference in the purpose of use, still beard butter and beard balm offer different advantages. So, picking one over another depends totally on personal preference.
If possible, you can keep both in your grooming kit box. Depending on the situation and expectation, you can use both of these.
