Microneedling can be a great option for you to deal with uneven texture or some other type of issues in your face. But a problem with this treatment is you can’t wear your makeup for a few days after you go through this process.
I know that makeup helps you to boost your confidence and stay active all the long. But when it is about putting on makeup after Microneedling, you should avoid it for some reason.
This is what I’m going to talk about today. In this article, you’ll find why you shouldn’t wear makeup after Microneedling and how long you need to wait to wear makeup after you go through this surgery.
Reasons Why You shouldn’t Wear Makeup after Microneedling
If you’ve studied the details about Microneedling, you know what happens to your skin right after the process.
In Microneedling, tiny needles are entered I your skin. Thus a lot of tiny holes are created in your skin. The immediate effect of this is redness and irritation. The redness goes away shortly. But to heal naturally, your skin takes some time.
If you apply makeup in this healing period, it may block the pores. Thus makeup lengthens the recovery process. Besides, makeup may irritate too.
And sometimes, small particles of makeup can enter into the tiny holes on your skin and cause infection.
For these reasons, you should stay away from putting makeup on your skin after a Microneedling process.
How Long You Need to Wait to Wear Makeup after Microneedling
The good news for you is you don’t have to wait for a long time to wear makeup after you go through the process.
First 24 Hours
Within the first 24 hours, you can’t put anything on your face. If your doctor suggests some cream for healing, you can use that. But within this time, nothing else can be used.
Next 48 Hours
After 24 hours have passed, you can go for using some skincare products that are for moisturizing and protecting your skin and promoting skin health.
You can use a natural moisturizer like coconut oil. It maintains the balance of moisture in your skin. Also, you can use your daily moisturizer that comes with natural ingredients. But avoid moisturizers containing retinoid or vitamin C.
Sunscreen should be used after the first 24 hours have gone. Use sunscreens that come with an SPF of 30 or more than that. Stronger sunscreens are recommended in case of fair or sensitive skin, especially during spring and summer. You should pick a non-comedogenic sunscreen.
Within this period, you can use Aloe Vera because it has healing properties. It also provides moisture that your skin needs the most after Microneedling. You can also use Hyaluronic acid that ensures hydration and retains moisture of your skin.
Hydrocortisone cream is a great product that you can use in this period. It makes recovery faster and reduces irritation. A 1% hydrocortisone cream is strong enough to deliver the benefits you expect from it.
After 72 Hours have Passed
After 72 hours of Microneedling, there is a huge chance that your skin has recovered. So, you can start wearing makeup again. But I suggest not putting heavy makeup on your face. Doing this may cause irritation and sometimes infection.
After 72 hours have passed, you can go for light and natural makeups so that your revived skin gets the scope to get used to makeup products again. This is important because it prepares your skin for your regular makeup routine that you used to follow.
Continue this for 1-2 days. Then you can go back to your regular makeup routine. This is my personal recommendation because I always try to stay on the safe side. Typically it is suggested to go back to the regular makeup routine after 72 hours.
But the best thing you can do is asking your doctor to check if the skin is ready to tolerate makeup or not.
Things You Can Do in This Period
There is a chance that you don’t go out without makeup. In such a case, I suggest staying at home.
You can take a break from your regular life and enjoy your own company. Having a break of 2-3 days heals your mind besides healing your skin.
If it is not possible to take a break of 2-3 days, try to go through the Microneedling process the day before your weekly holiday. Thus you’ll have at least a day to heal your skin.
After 24 hours, you are allowed to use some moisturizing and protective products. You can pass the next two days with the help of those.
So, the summary is, if possible, take a break from your regular work for a few days after Microneedling. If that is not possible, schedule your Microneedling session before your weekly holiday.
Final Verdict
Microneedling opens holes on your skin where makeup particles can enter and cause a problem. That’s why doctors suggest avoiding makeup for a few days after it. If you still put on makeup within this period, it may result in the worst scenario.
The good news is you don’t have to wait for a long time. While preparing for Microneedling, prepare yourself mentally for a short break from makeup. And before starting wearing makeup, consulting your doctor will put you on the safe side.
